Childcare

St. John’s offers professionally staffed children’s nurseries every Sunday from 8:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.   Nurseries are located on the bottom floor of the preschool wing.  “Noah’s Nursery” is for babies and toddlers through age 2.  Children ages 3 to 5 are cared for in the “Eve’s Angels” room.  Parents will receive a pager for use during church services.

The Nurseries are located on the bottom floor in the Pre-School wing off of Alfriend Hall. Enter the church buildings off of Calhoun Street and go through the double doors to Alfriend Hall immediately on the left. The nurseries are located through the double doors across Alfriend Hall and down the steps.

Sunday School

Sunday School classes meet between services during the school year, from 10:15 to 11:00 am.

Preschool children attend Sunday school upstairs in the preschool wing, directly above the nurseries.  Episcopal Children's Curriculum uses the Bible, the Book of Common Prayer, the Hymnal and classic works of art to make the liturgy and traditions of The Episcopal Church come to life for children.

Kindergarteners meet upstairs in the preschool wing for Godly Play, a Montessori-based approach to religious education which teaches children the art of using religious language - parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action - helping them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.

Our dynamic First Grade program meets upstairs in the Parish House. We bring first graders together each Sunday morning with teachers and clergy to learn what it means to be part of God's Christian Family, how we worship God in church and in our everyday lives, and what baptism really means.  We share with others less fortunate through Thanksgiving and Christmas "giving" projects, and explore the church by "crawling" through the organ pipes, ringing the tower bells, and having a treasure hunt in the church. All of our exciting activities culminate in our study of the Last Supper and in preparation for the Festal Eucharist at the end of the school year.

Students in 2nd-5th Grade also meet upstairs in the Parish House classrooms to participate in WorkshopCycles, a program which takes seriously the spiritual development of children while providing creative, hands-on activities to help children learn the stories of God and God's people. Children work on the same story or concept for several weeks, using different learning approaches each week. Come get involved in Art, Drama, Stories, Music and more!

Wednesday Evening
