St. John's Episcopal Church Foundation
The St. John’s Foundation was reorganized by the church in 1998 as a
separate entity, to assist in support of the activities of St. John’s
Episcopal Church, in its mission with the following:
- To protect the building and grounds of St. John’s
Church
- To fund special projects for Christian ministry
- To promote Christian education
- To support worship and music
Contributions to the St. John’s Foundation are not to be made in
lieu of your support of the general fund of the church. Contributions
can be made in ways that may not impact your current budget, yet will
make a profound difference in the future of our church. For example:
- Immediate Gifts – A gift of cash, securities, or other
assets such as real estate or objects of value that allow for an
easy tax deduction.
- Bequests – By drawing up a will or by adding a simple
codicil to an existing will.
- Life Insurance – Give a new or existing life insurance
policy by designating the church as the beneficiary of the policy.
Some of the recent activities the Foundation has participated in are
the following:
- Administration of funds from the Lively Trust for the
remodeling of the kitchen
- Renovations to Alfriend Hall
- Scholarships for youth to attend Camp Weed
- Assistance for the annual mission trip to Cuba
- Landscaping for our church grounds
- Maintenance to clean and provide security for the
Episcopal Cemetery
- Contribution to Grace Mission during their time of dire need
The Foundation has an eight member board, including
the Senior Warden as an ex-officio voting member. The Foundation is not
under the governance of the church, but is a separate and distinct
entity. The current board members are John Aurell, John Thomas, Martha
Gene Wigginton, Palmer Proctor, Sandra Howard, Bill Moor, Jim Apthorp,
and Fraser Smith, Senior Warden.
Your personal attorney or tax advisor can assist you in the best
approach for your particular situation. If you have any questions
or would like to make a contribution to St. John’s Foundation, please
call the church office and they will have a member of the Foundation
Board contact you. Please know that all inquiries are confidential.
The Foundation is not designed to be used as a “contingency fund” to
be drawn upon when the general operating fund of the church is in need.
