What is The Society of Grace? Throughout Anglican history, small groups committed to supporting missions and missionary activity have formed as "societies." An example of this is the Compass Rose Society. In keeping with that tradition, The Society of Grace is being formed to be a network of parishioners committed to the ministries of Grace Mission and its congregation. Each parish within the Apalachee Region will have a Society of Grace "chapter."
What is its purpose?
The Society of Grace seeks to do three things:
- To increase the awareness of Grace Mission and its ministries
- To promote direct participation with Grace Mission's congregation in a Grace Mission worship or program activity
- To inform parishioners of the opportunities for volunteer ministry at Grace Mission
Who can be a member?
Anyone who has an interest in getting involved in the ministries of Grace Mission is encouraged to become a "missioner" in The Society of Grace. Grace Mission has a range of needs and opportunities for those willing to help.
What will I do as a member?
That will vary depending on the current needs of Grace Mission and your interests. But there is always something to do at Grace Mission, whether it is serving a meal, tutoring, working in the nursery, or helping fix up the place.
As a missioner you will have the opportunity to get to know more about Grace Mission and its congregation and then spreading the word to other parishioners. Attending a worship service or participating in one of Grace Mission's program activities is another way to feel more a part of what is going on at Grace Mission. You can share those experiences as well by inviting a friend to join you.
Will there be many meetings?
No. The purpose of The Society of Grace is not to meet and talk about what should be done; its purpose is to get things done. Getting the word out will be done, as much as possible, by postcard or e-mail. From time to time, the various parish-based chapters of The Society of Grace will come together for a celebratory event. Sometimes these events will involve only members of The Society of Grace. At other times, the event will be to involve the churches as a whole.
