Men’s Breakfast (7:00 – 8:00 a.m., Graham Lounge)
The Men's Breakfast is a group of men that has been meeting on Tuesday morning at 7AM for the past 20 years for fellowship, breakfast and lively discussion. Often we talk about local and global current events - war, pestilence, politics, education, religion, etc. from the perspective of our faith and our society. Most of the men are from St. John's but others are welcome. The meeting ends in prayer at 8AM. Tim Cross, Facilitator.
Contemplative Prayer (11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Parlor)
In discursive meditation the mind, imagination and other faculties are actively employed in an effort to understand our relationship with God. Contemplative prayer is described as "a gaze of faith, "a silent love." Each contemplative prayer group at St. John's has a period of discursive meditation followed by a period of "silent love."
Lynn Bannister, Facilitator.
Education for Ministry (12:00 - 2:30 p.m., Cobb Library)
EfM is the acronym for Education for Ministry. EfM is an extension course offered through the Sewanee School of Theology in individual churches. This wonderful group process allows participants to explore the Bible in detail and to examine their own theology. It provides a small group in which you can open yourself to renewal and transformation as you learn. Each class is limited in the number of participants who may enroll with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 in a group. There is a Mentor and co-Mentor for each class. Registration for the course takes place over the summer and classes run throughout a school calendar year fall through spring. St. John's offers classes on Thursday mornings and Monday Evenings and Tuesday afternoons.
Contact Mahaska Whitley for information on Tuesday afternoon classes.
