2023 Riley School Supply Drive

It’s that time of year again … school is almost back in session! St. John’s Episcopal Church has supported our partner school, Riley Elementary, for years with mentoring, volunteerism, teacher recognition, and more. We plan to do the same this year by helping the student body start the year with all the items they need to learn and succeed!

You can help by purchasing school supplies and dropping them off at church by Monday, August 7. There will be a collection box in the Calhoun Street lobby near the church office.

Riley administrators have identified the most-needed items:

  • #2 PENCILS
  • BIG PINK ERASERS
  • PLASTIC PENCIL BOXES
  • DRY ERASE MARKERS & BOARD ERASERS FOR STUDENTS
  • HEADPHONES (BIG, STURDY ONES)
  • CRAYONS (24 COUNT) OR JUMBO SIZE
  • COLORED PENCILS
  • HIGHLIGHTERS
  • MARKERS
  • FOLDERS WITH POCKETS AND PRONGS
  • 1/2-INCH BINDERS (WHITE AND BLACK)
  • WIDE-RULED NOTEBOOK PAPER
  • POST-IT NOTES
  • COMPOSITION NOTEBOOKS
  • GLUE STICKS
  • STAPLES
  • PAPER CLIPS
  • ROLLS OF TAPE
  • INDEX CARDS
  • DICTIONARIES
  • HAND SANITIZER
  • LYSOL SPRAY
  • DISINFECTANT WIPES
  • KLEENEX BOXES

All items collected will be provided to students at John G. Riley Elementary by coordinators from our “Lend a Hand” program, who will ensure the items are delivered before the start of the school year.

If you wish to make a monetary donation to the program instead, please do so by check, ATTN: Kate Kile (note “Riley” or “school supplies” in the memo line). You can also MAKE A DONATION ONLINE by selecting “pass thru” from the drop-down menu and indicating this is a “Riley/school supplies” donation.

INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING OR MENTORING?

Leon County Schools is always looking for new mentors and adult volunteers. On Sunday, August 6, St. John’s has invited Kelli Walker, Director of LCS Volunteer Services, to stop by after services and answer questions about volunteering in our local school system.

St. John’s home school is Riley Elementary, but you can serve at the Leon County school of your choice. If you would like to assist in a classroom, mentor a child for one hour a week, or volunteer in any capacity, please fill out the Leon County Schools Volunteer Application. New volunteers will need to complete background screening and fingerprinting (free of charge) and training IS also available! Whether you are new or whether you volunteer currently, a volunteer application is required annually and will be valid from the date of completion through June 30, 2024.

Questions? Please EMAIL WENDY ERNST our Mentoring Program and “Lend a Hand” Program Co-Chair.
