Advent Luncheon

Join us on Monday, December 12, 2022, for St. John’s annual Advent Luncheon.

All are invited for refreshments at 11:30 AM, in Eve’s Garden. A plated luncheon will be served at noon in Alfriend Hall, as we hear from this year’s guest speaker, artist and author Faye Dixon Bennett, about her new children’s book on prayer. During the busyness of Advent, prayer is especially important as it can cut away distractions, making our lives a place of warmth and faith. Proceeds from this event go to Episcopal Relief & Development to assist those impacted by recent hurricanes.

GUEST SPEAKER: This year’s guest speaker is author and artist Faye Dixon Bennett. Combining her love of art and teaching with a passion for sharing the Bible, Bennett has recently authored and illustrated a children’s book, Pray This Way. This book is the first in a series that will provide parents and grandparents with a fun and rhythmic way to talk with children about prayer. Bennett majored in art at the University of Montevallo. She is a painter, using acrylic, oils, and mixed media, and has taught private art lessons. Professionally, Bennett designed commercial and residential lighting for a company in Birmingham. As a volunteer, she designed kneelers for her church – a multi-year project – and served as a children’s leader, adult leader, and class member. This is where Bennett developed a love for sharing the Bible with children. Bennett is a mother of four and grandmother of eight. She resides in Pine Apple, Alabama with her husband and her corgi.
