Event Series Event Series: Altar Guild – Linen Training

Altar Guild – Linen Training

March 11, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Looking to try a new practice during Lent?  Share your sewing skills!

If you enjoy sewing and would like to share that talent in service to our parish, consider joining our Linen Guild.

St. John’s parishioners have historically made our treasured altar linens by hand using beautiful pure linen.  This skilled and dedicated group makes the fair linens, corporals, purificators, lavabo and baptismal towels, and palls that we use during worship.  This work involves everything from cutting, basting, and hemming to adding the lovely embroidery that adorns the linens.  We are so blessed to worship with handmade linens and would like to strengthen this ministry so that this tradition will continue at St. John’s.

If you are interested in learning more about our linen ministry, please stop by the Rutledge Room on the following dates. We will provide instruction and supplies to get you started.

  • Saturday, March 11, between 9:30 and 11:30 AM
  • Monday, March 13, between 11 AM and 1 PM

All sewing skills are welcome – whether you prefer prep work, hemming, or embroidering we would love to talk with you.  If you cannot make it on these dates, please contact Angie Wylie (AWYL068@gmail.com) or Mary Doug Buchanan (marydbuchanan@gmail.com) for further information.
