Coffee Talk: Capital Area Justice Ministry

February 20, 2022 @ 11:15 am - 12:00 pm

“What does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8

In 2021, St. John’s joined 20 other religious congregations in the Big Bend to form the Capital Area Justice Ministry (CAJM), a coalition uniting to answer a call to “do justice.”

Together this network of organizations selected affordable housing and gun violence as the two most pressing issues facing our community. Now, the coalition is working to find solutions and institute change. Join us at Coffee Talk this morning to learn more about St. John’s role in the Justice Ministry, what’s coming up, and how you can get involved!

Coffee Talk is presented in a hybrid format – join us in person, in Killeen Hall, or via Zoom:

DID YOU KNOW these facts about Tallahassee?

  • Three out of four low-income families can’t afford their rent. A person making $8/hr. would have to work more than 90 hours a WEEK to afford the average cost of rent in Tallahassee. We need thousands of affordable homes to meet the need in our town.
  • Over half of our city’s residents do not have sufficient income to cover the costs of basic necessities: housing, childcare, food, transportation, healthcare, basic smartphone plan, and taxes.
  • There have been nearly 300 shootings and 80 shooting deaths in the city of Tallahassee since 2018.
