Choral Evensong & Feast Day of Frederick Douglass

February 20, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

NOTE: Choral Evensong will be held in place of our weekly 5:30 p.m. Service of Holy Eucharist.

Today’s service of Choral Evensong celebrates the Feast of Frederick Douglass, American abolitionist, women’s suffragist, editor, orator, author, statesman, and reformer. Douglass was an ordained minister of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The beautiful service of Choral Evensong is one of the oldest in the Anglican tradition, dating back to to 1549. The readings in this special Service of Choral Evensong are those appointed for the Feast Day of Frederick Douglass. Choral music in this service will include:

  • Preces and Responses by Phillip Moore
  • Psalm 85 by Samuel Sebastian Wesley
  • Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in b minor by T. Tertius Noble
  • This little light of mine arranged by Moses Hogan
  • The organ prelude for the service will be Prelude and Fugue in B Minor (BWV 544) by J. S. Bach
