Sunday Forum: St. John’s Cemetery

November 13, 2022 @ 11:15 am - 12:15 pm

Join us for a special Sunday Forum highlighting St. John’s history!

In 1991, an Eagle Scout Project by St. John’s member Tommy Bull was the first effort to look into the identification of every soul buried in St. John’s historic cemetery. Twenty five years later, a second research project was designed and carried out by four members of St. John’s. It took four years (2016-2020) to complete this research, and then an additional two years (2020-2022) was spent collecting, editing, and creating digital files that were designed to further identify, photograph, and tell the basic stories of the families who were buried in this sacred space. During the summer of 2022, Dr. David Proctor, St. John’s member and Dept. Chair of the TCC History Department, wrote brief sketches of the St. John’s timeline [1829-present] and its place in the history of Florida. During the presentation David will highlight some of these historical eras and Betty Ashler will give examples of the family graves within that period of time.
