In early 2020, the Tallahassee Community Remembrance Project (TCRP), a coalition of 46 local organizations and faith communities, including St. John’s, led a soil collection ceremony at the spot in Cascades Park that would eventually house a narrative marker. The purpose of the marker is to help citizens acknowledge past and present racial violence and injustice, including the four documented victims of lynching in Leon County. The marker, dedicated this past summer, will be the backdrop of TCRP’s first annual remembrance on Saturday, 2/12, at 2 PM. See exact event location below.
Following the ceremony, St. John’s Episcopal Church will host the community for “They were all from Leon County: The 1911 Lynching in Lake City” a presentation by FSU Professor Jennifer Koslow. This presentation will be held in St. John’s Alfriend Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.
