Host the Holy Family during Advent

Las Posadas (Spanish for “Inns” or “Shelters”) is a tradition originating in Latin America and celebrated there, as well as in the United States to commemorate the pilgrimage of Mary and Joseph as they walked from Nazareth to Bethlehem to be registered in the Bethlehem census. As the story goes, baby Jesus was born in Bethlehem in a stable as the couple couldn’t find lodging at an inn because they were all full.

St. John’s is inviting parishioners to participate in this meaningful tradition by hosting Mary and Joseph in their homes as they travel along their way to Bethlehem. We invite you to sign up and host the happy couple along their journey.

As Mary and Joseph’s stay winds down at one host’s home, that host will accommodate Mary and Joseph’s transportation to the next host’s home until the couple reaches Bethlehem.

Please take comfort that during these COVID times, Mary and Joseph are taking every precaution to keep you safe (they are fond of the Clorox wipes that will travel with them in their basket). They also love having their picture taken along their journey!

We hope you will sign up to host Mary and Joseph this year for Las Posadas. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or text Stephen Rogers, the Posada Chairperson at 850.510.9039 with any questions.
