Spires in the Sun: A Presentation with the Author

Join Spires in the Sun author Jonathan Rich for an engaging multi-media presentation on the seminal book about Carpenter Gothic Episcopal Churches in Florida.

These churches were constructed in the 1800s, when Florida was still largely a raw southeastern frontier. Yet these churches breathed the romantic sensibilities of England’s stone parish churches into new wood. Participants may be surprised to learn about one particular church that has an interesting connection to Harriet Beecher Stowe. Spires in the Sun was the winner of the Florida Historical Society’s 2024 Charlton Tibeau Award. This work weaves together architectural, church, and Florida history with engrossing storytelling, vibrant color photographs, and rare black-and-white historical images.
