Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” At St. John’s, we believe children are not just the future of the Church—they are a vital part of it today. We welcome children and their families into a community where faith is nurtured through worship, learning, friendship, and play.
Our Children’s Ministry offers engaging Sunday School, special seasonal programs, and family-focused events throughout the year. We also have an active Parents with Young Children Small Group that helps families build friendships, support one another, and grow together in faith. The safety and well-being of every child is one of our highest priorities. All clergy, staff, and volunteers who work with children complete specialized training and follow our Safe Church policies to ensure every child can learn, grow, and belong in a safe and welcoming environment.
During our Sunday worship services (May-August: 10 AM service and September-April: 9 AM service), we offer Children's Chapel. Children's Chapel occurs between the Gospel and the Peace and is a great way for your child to learn an age appropriate lesson for the day while you listen to the sermon and participate in prayers. Children are always accompanied by two teachers and parents are welcome to join us!
Starting September 13, Sunday School classes are offered for all ages.
Kindergarten-3rd grade will be participating in Godly Play, a Montessori based curriculum with an imaginative approach to Christian formation. Godly Play nurtures individual theological thinking through wonder and play!
4th and 5th graders will be doing a Story Makers curriculum called Jonah and the Minors. Each child will have their own Zine, where they are able to explore the minor profits of the old testament and learn how important short messages like “I love you” can be.
Our dedicated nursery space is located on the first floor of our main building and we offer childcare during our Sunday morning services. We also provide childcare during times where the whole parish is invited to gather. Our nursery is staffed by trained childcare workers and is equipped for the needs of infants starting at five months to five-years old. Pagers are provided for parents as they sign their children in. This allows us to connect if there is a need while the children are in our care. We delight in working with children of all ages during their visit to St. John’s -- providing materials for coloring and tools for learning about God’s love!
Our sanctuary also contains "Busy Bags" that you are welcome to pick up to keep your little ones busy during service. We know children get the wiggles and we want you to know that they are welcome at all our services.
Our fourth and fifth graders gather once a month as a group from 5 - 7 PM on the fourth or fifth Sunday of the month. At each gathering, we provide a space for these older children to inquire, be silly, and anchor themselves in a safe environment as they discern who they are as they are as they gain more independence. It’s fun -- and sometimes downright goofy -- and it’s a space where all are accepted for who they are.
The St. John’s Choir School offers children and youth in kindergarten through 12th grade the opportunity to grow as musicians, leaders, and people of faith in a joyful and supportive community. Open to all children, regardless of background or financial means, the Choir School provides tuition-free music education through weekly choral rehearsals, music theory instruction, and instrumental lessons.
The program includes Joyful Noisemakers (Kindergarten–2nd Grade) and Choristers (3rd–12th Grade), creating age-appropriate pathways for every child to develop their musical gifts. Along the way, students build confidence, form lasting friendships, discover the joy of serving through music, and experience the richness of an intergenerational church community where they are known, encouraged, and celebrated.

Having a baby is one of the most exciting and daunting events of your life! Here at St. John’s we want to support you in that new beginning. If this is your first child or fourteenth, we always need a community around us. The New Baby Ministry reminds you that we are here to support you in prayer, in meals, and in community. You are not alone, we are here for you.
MASH (Munchkins and Spiritual Harmony) is a relaxed, welcoming small group for parents of young children to enjoy coffee, conversation, and connection while navigating faith and parenting in the midst of early childhood’s joyful chaos. We meet every quarter and and always have a wonderful time letting our children play together and even engage in acts of service.
One week of the year we transform our main Parish hall and classrooms into a science lab, art station, mission space and more -- and of course there is always singing, dancing and snacks. Stay tuned for more exciting info for VBS 2027!
