Blessing of the Animals

Everyone in Tallahassee is invited to join us at Cascades Park on Sunday, October 1, at 3 PM, for the Blessing of the Animals, an event we hold annually on the Sunday closest to the Feast of St. Francis. Bring your furry, scaly, and feathered friends! Please ensure pets are leashed or crated.

• Near playground and the Korean War memorial.
• Parking available at the FDOT building.
• Programming starts at 3 PM with a brief blessing service and individual blessings of the animals.
• Each pet blessed will receive a St. Francis medal.
• There will be several booths and adoptable animals: It’s Meow or Never – bringing adoptable cats; At Home Veterinary Care; Leon County Humane Society; Big Dog Rescue – bringing adoptable dogs; Ochlockonee River Kennel Club; and Tallahassee Memorial Animal Therapy.

New for 2023! This year we are asking for donations for Elder Care Service, Inc. (ECS). St. John’s looks forward to partnering with ECS, supporting local senior citizens and their pets. Please bring the following to this year’s event: dry and canned dog and cat food, cat litter, treats, toys, etc. Leashes and harnesses are also welcome because many seniors can’t stretch their budgets to afford these items or get to a store to buy them.
