Breathing Under Water is a spiritual study of the Twelve Steps. Our class will read and discuss the bestseller, Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps by Richard Rohr.
This book study and small group is perfect for the season of Lent, as the work examines the spirituality inherent in all (mainline) 12-step programs and invites us to “let go of egoic attachments and step into freedom and wholeness.” As Fr. Richard says in his book “we do not think ourselves into new ways of being, we live ourselves into new ways of thinking.”
This class also encourages readers to examine how the Twelve Steps of AA (and others) can be profoundly beneficial to everyone by either “doing” the steps or at least understanding them. Rohr has written extensively that many of us are already “broken” or “powerless” over some area in our lives. The Twelve Steps can be a straight line from our biggest struggle directly to God.
Registration is required in advance, and we ask that participants commit to joining us for all class dates.
We will meet the following Thursdays from 6-7:30pm in the Press Room on the second floor of St. John’s:
