Mindful Doodling

We’ve all done it – during a presentation, while on a long phone call, or in the margins of our class notes. But, did you know that doodling can be a mindful practice? It helps bring us to the present moment as busy hands release us from judgmental thoughts.

Mindful doodling is about sinking into the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations of the drawing tool and paper. When you begin, take a moment to quiet your mind and sink into the present, then release your pencil to go where it wants. Any direction is the right direction! Experience listening to the pencil move over the page, observe its speed, sense your fingers holding the pencil, and observe how light and shadow are cast over your hand.

Transform your doodle into prayer by drawing a shape representing a place that needs healing in a friend or loved one and using that shape as a focusing tool to send them prayers and healing.

Mindful practices are nuggets of wisdom to help you grow closer to God.
