"Respecting the Dignity of Every Human Being" is one of the promises we make at baptism in the Episcopal Church. As baptized children of God, we strive to make sure that all in our community have the opportunity for health, education, and housing. Capital Area Justice Ministry is our local group that collaborates with more than 20 other faith organizations, to provide systemic change and encourage the betterment of the entire community.

Do you love connecting with people, listening to their stories, and helping them feel welcome? St. John’s has two teams of volunteers that serve meals at this residential center that provides holistic services for those who are unsheltered and financially insecure. There’s also an auxiliary team of drivers that shuttles donated baked goods from local businesses to the Kearney Center. All ages are welcome to serve in this ministry.

For years, St. John’s has partnered with Riley Elementary, a local school with children who are in dire need of mentoring and teachers who could use encouragement and support. This ministry allows you to commit to reading to children weekly, mentoring a specific child, or assisting in monthly or seasonal celebrations for teachers. If you are interested in making memories for these children and teachers, we have a way for you to get involved.

Those who are incarcerated are often forgotten by those in the outside world, yet there is a deep hunger for relationship and spiritual care within the walls of our prisons. St. John’s sends trained volunteers to share worship and lead bible studies in our local prisons. If you are interested in taking part, we invite you to speak with our Deacon who would love to share more about this ministry.

Each November, our parish hall is transformed into a holiday market featuring the most wonderful display of baked goods, silent auction items, rummage sale treasures, and crafts. Our St. John’s Market is run by volunteers who donate their time, talent and treasure to this fundraising event. The St. John’s Market benefits our own missions and ministries and it annually provides $15K in grants to the larger community. There are plenty of opportunities for you to donate or volunteer!
