Pandemic Partnership

Over the past four years, the choirs of St. John’s and the Church of the Nativity in Huntsville, AL, have collaborated to provide services of choral evensong and Holy Eucharist in both their home parishes and at St. John’s in Montgomery, AL.

This collaboration was intended to culminate in a two-week pilgrimage to England in summer 2020, to sing eight choral evensongs and one choral Eucharist. Unfortunately, plans were interrupted by the pandemic and the trip was rescheduled for June 2021, with services at Winchester Cathedral and Bath Abbey.

Throughout the pandemic, each choir has been offering music virtually for worship. The two churches even collaborated in July on the inspiring virtual hymn, “All my hope on God is founded.”

And in December, for our annual Service of Advent Lessons and Carols, St. John’s organist Elizabeth LaJeunesse and Christian Crocker, Director of Music and Organist at Church of the Nativity, shared some special organ duets.

This March, the two choirs come together virtually to provide a choral evensong for the Lenten season.

Make plans to join us on Sunday, March 14 at 5:00 p.m. EST, for this service which begins with an extended prelude played by both organists. It also features choral music of Howells, Byrd, Wesley, and Tallis.
