Search Timeline

Phase 1: GETTING STARTED (June-August 2021)

The Interim Rector is appointed by the Bishop. The Bishop appoints a diocesan liaison who helps church leadership choose the Rector Search Committee Chair and Vice Chair. The parish is invited to self-nominate or submit nominations for the Search Committee. The Senior and Junior Wardens in consultation with the Chair and Vice Chair discern the makeup of the Search Committee, ensuring a diverse group representing a wide range of St. John’s parishioners. The Vestry approves the complete Rector Search Committee.

Phase 2: SELF STUDY (September-October 2021)

All parishioners are invited to complete the Congregational Assessment Tool (CAT) survey, provided by HolyCow! Consulting. In order to find a Rector that will thrive at St. John’s, we first need to assess who we are and what we see for our future. Using results from the survey, the Search Committee will create a Parish Profile, which is approved by the Vestry. The Parish Profile is essentially a job description that St. John’s will utilize for seeking our new Rector.

Phase 3: SEEKING (November 2021-February 2022)

The parish profile is made available to prospective Rector candidates. This is the time when the Search Committee will commence the discernment process of finding God’s choice for our next Rector. The Search Committee vows to remain open and transparent with the process, while maintaining confidentiality with regard to the candidates. Applications will be accepted for a period of three to four months.

Phase 4: DISCERNMENT (Spring 2022)

After deep prayer and careful reflection, the Rector Search Committee will reduce the number of applicants to those whom they feel are the best fit for St. John’s. Finalists will be evaluated by the Search Committee.

Phase 5: CALL (Summer 2022)

The Search Committee will choose the candidate that they discern is God’s choice for St. John’s. This choice will be forwarded to the Vestry for approval. Once the Vestry approves, the candidate will be sent to the Bishop for final approval. After the Search Committee’s selection has been approved by both the Vestry and the Bishop, a call will be extended, inviting the candidate to be the next Rector of St. John’s. The Vestry will form a Special Transition Committee to help our new Rector acclimate to his or her new ministry at St. John’s.
