St. John’s Episcopal Church to Present Fauré’s Requiem During All Souls Service
Tallahassee, FL — The Adult Choir and Choristers of St. John’s Episcopal Church will perform Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, Op. 48 on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. as part of a service for the Feast of All Souls. The service is free and open to the public.
The Feast of All Souls, observed in the Christian tradition as a time to remember and give thanks for those who have died, provides a particularly meaningful setting for Fauré’s Requiem. Rather than emphasizing fear and judgment, Fauré’s setting is characterized by consolation, hope, and a profound sense of peace. His music invites listeners to reflect on mortality while turning toward the promise of rest and eternal light.
“Fauré’s Requiem is especially impactful when experienced within the context of worship,” said Marissa Hall, Director of Music at St. John’s Episcopal Church. “The Feast of All Souls gives us an opportunity not simply to sing this beautiful piece, but to experience it while remembering those who have gone before us. We hope the music will offer beauty, transcendance, and peace to all those able to join us.”
Composed between 1887 and 1893 and revised throughout Fauré’s life, the Requiem is among the most beloved works in the choral repertoire. Its seven movements move from the quiet prayer of the opening Introit et Kyrie through the luminous Sanctus, the intimate Pie Jesu, and the dramatic Libera me, ultimately arriving at the serene In Paradisum, depicting the soul entering paradise.
